Restoring mangroves on the Ayeyarwady delta
The Mangrove Restoration and Sustainable Development Project in Myanmar restores and protects degraded mangrove forests in the Ayeyarwady Region of Myanmar. Developed by Worldview International Foundation, with Vlinder among its first crucial financing partners, it combines restoration with community participation, forest protection and livelihood activities.
Planting ran from 2020 to 2022. The planned project duration is 20 years.
Restoration built with local communities
Mangrove restoration in Myanmar is closely linked to community participation and long-term local stewardship.
Community programmes have included seasonal employment, vocational skills training, education, access to clean energy, village revolving funds and support for income-generating activities. These initiatives are designed to strengthen local livelihoods while reducing pressure on restored mangrove forests.
